Airbus has signed a memorandum of understanding with SAS to work on electric aircraft

Will tomorrow's business travel take place aboard an electric aircraft? Possibly, if we are to believe the efforts being made by Airbus. The European aircraft manufacturer has even signed a memorandum of understanding with SAS with this in mind. The two partners plan to begin work in the month of June on hybrid and electric vehicles. " Under this Memorandum of Understanding, Airbus and SAS Scandinavian Airlines will cooperate on a joint research project to better understand the operational and infrastructural opportunities and challenges associated with the large-scale introduction of hybrid and fully electric aircraft in airline operating procedures "says the aircraft manufacturer in a press release.

This collaboration is due to end at the end of next year. SAS aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. To achieve this, the company will be relying on a modernised fleet and the use of biofuels, but electric aircraft are already considered to be "the next step". " We're proud of our ambitious sustainability work and we're delighted that Airbus has chosen SAS to partner us on this future project. If this becomes a reality, it will revolutionise emissions. It's a great way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," explains Rickard Gustafson, CEO of SAS.
