Study: free WiFi in 90% hotels according to Kayak

Kayak has published an international study on the connectivity offered in hotels, noting that 90% of establishments worldwide now offer WiFi access. However, the booking site points out that this does not necessarily mean that a connection is offered in the room: free access in the lobby is enough to be included in this "free Wi-Fi" category.

The "Free Wi-Fi in hotels" survey published on 24 April by Kayak covers more than 500,000 establishments worldwide. The report, which serves as a reminder that "a hotel can offer free Wi-Fi in the lobby but charge for Wi-Fi in the room", is dominated by Romania, with a rather surprising average of 99% of establishments offering access to the wireless network. With 94%, France ranks a modest 16th.th out of 28 European countries, while - another surprise - Germany and Austria come bottom of the table. Australia inherits the worst rate of free connectivity with a low 56%, while at national level, Toulouse dominates the debates: "96% of hotels in the pink city offer free WiFi, compared with 88% of hotels in Paris" notes the study.
