Success Story: Nicolas Schmidt, Healthcare Solutions Product Manager for Withings

Nicolas Schmidt - Withings

From an initial staff of six, the workforce has doubled every year.

"After studying at Centrale Paris and working in finance in London, I set up my own start-up in the health sector, but in France there are a lot of administrative barriers. In 2008, Cédric Hutchings, another former Centrale graduate, and his partner Eric Careel created Withings (a contraction of 'wifi things'), a 'Digital Health Company' offering connected health products that quickly became a success in the United States. I joined the company in 2014 to help it set up in Boston. From six people when I arrived, the workforce has doubled every year. It has to be said that we offer products that are both practical - including a technological watch that measures activity and sleep, heart rate, number of steps... - but that also convey French elegance. The strap can be made of Hermès leather, for example! Our products are attracting major brands like Apple and AT&T, but healthcare professionals are also increasingly interested. Hospitals are looking for innovative services and see this as a way of developing remote medical monitoring. My mission is to increase the number of interfaces between patients and hospitals in order to encourage remote monitoring. Prevention is the future of healthcare".
