Avis on Demand is also designed to be easy to use. After making a reservation on Avis.fr, renters use their Preferred card to open the vehicle and retrieve the keys from the glove compartment. Avis on Demand will be rolled out rapidly in the major French cities served by the TGV, and then across Europe.
As a competitor to Avis, Hertz has rebranded its former Connect car-sharing service as Hertz on Demand. Through a website - Hertzondemand.com - customers can reserve a car at 60 stations in the Paris region. With no membership fee, Hertz on Demand is billed according to the length of time the vehicle is used, i.e. from 4 to 6 euros per hour, plus 35 centimes per kilometre.
