It hasn't even opened yet, and yet it's probably the most eagerly awaited of all airport hotels. Firstly, because the hub where it will be located, New York JFK, is one of the few in the United States not to have a hotel directly linked to its terminals. But, above all, because it is a veritable legend in aviation history that is about to be revived, the former TWA Flight Center, abandoned since the company went bankrupt in 2001 and was taken over by American Airlines.
A marvel of 1960s architecture designed by Eero Saarinen, the emblematic terminal is the subject of a $265 million transformation project led by MCR Development, which has obtained the right from American Airlines to call the establishment the "TWA Hotel".
JetBlue is also involved, as this future 505-room hotel will be connected to the terminal used by the carrier. Architectural purists can rest assured that the building will retain the immaculate white curved lines designed by the Finnish architect. The Port Authority of New York will spend 20 million dollars to preserve the building's historic dimension.
