Vueling has just announced that it will accept from 2023 the paying for flights and services in crypto-currency. The carrier integrates the cryptocurrency platform BitPay and payment network Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP). Cryptocurrency payment will only be available to individual travellers.
When making a purchase, passengers will have the option of paying for their ticket in 13 currencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC). The latter are the most widely used.
Vueling will be the second low-cost airline to adopt crypto-currency after airBaltic. It is far from the only company to accept this type of payment. UATP, the payment network owned by the airlines, has joined forces with the BitPay platform in September 2021.. This makes it possible tooffer crypto-currency payment options to over 300 airlines and member travel companies.
These already include Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air China, American Airlines, Austrian Airlines, China Eastern, Delta, El Al, Etihad, Japan Airlines, Jet Blue, LOT Polish Airlines, Peach, Qantas, Southwest Airlines, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines. And the list goes on...
