Low-cost carrier Wizz Air to launch on 16 December a base in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. The airline had a historic presence there, with its first base inaugurated in 2017. But in March 2023, Wizz Air decided to suspend its flights for security reasons in the face of growing tension between Moldova and Russia.
Nevertheless, the Moldovans recently voted in the presidential elections confirmed the country's membership of the European Union. This development has enabled Wizz Air to reposition itself with a number of routes linking Chisinau to the rest of Europe.
Operations at the Wizz Air base in Chisinau will serve 16 destinations this winter, including launch of 8 new routes. From 16 December, passengers will be able to travel directly from the Moldovan capital to Berlin or Bologna, Brussels-Charleroi, Dortmund, Memmingen, Nuremberg, Paris-Beauvais and Verona. These cities are in addition to existing routes to Abu Dhabi, Budapest, London-Luton, Milan, Rome, Warsaw, Venice and Vienna.
Visit Paris-Beauvais and Brussels-CharleroiAn Airbus A320 will take off from the French airport every Tuesday and Saturday. Services to Belgium will operate every Thursday and Sunday.
