By 2030, zero carbon footprint will have become a mandatory standard and no longer just an individual desire, according to the latest government measures and European directives on environmental protection. Seminars will be no exception to this trend, and their organisation should have as little impact as possible on the ecological footprint of companies. Some hotel groups are already initiating 'green meeting' programmes, offering a glimpse of what is to come in twenty years' time. Recycling bins, paper notebooks and recycled cardboard pens are already making their way into workrooms. Marriott's Eco-friendly package even includes the redistribution of any uneaten food to charities. At Fairmont, too, the emphasis is no longer on throwing away, but on reusing: porcelain and glass crockery are replacing plastic cups and plates. And Pierre & Vacances has replaced individual bottles with water fountains. Last year, the French specialist in hotel residences launched an Eco seminar programme, available in the establishments of the eponymous brand as well as at Maeva and Hôtels Latitude. Companies are offered a range of 'eco-fun' activities during which participants learn about protecting the environment on a daily basis.
