3 questions to Lionel Guérin, CEO of Transavia France

What are your objectives for 2010?

With a fleet of nine Boeing B737s this summer and seven next winter, Transavia will serve 26 and 17 destinations respectively from Paris-Orly. We intend to consolidate our presence from Lyon and Nantes. Our results were up sharply until the Icelandic ash cloud blocked air traffic in April. Despite a cost of €3 million, the company will break even in this, only its third financial year. Load factors are good, in the region of 85 %, bearing in mind that Transavia operates 75 % of scheduled flights and, for the remainder, flights at the request of tour operators.

What's new at Transavia?

In terms of communication, in June we first occupied an ephemeral location in Paris, in the Marais district, to raise the profile of Transavia. After Paris-Orly, online check-in is now available on transavia.com for flights operated from Nantes-Atlantique airport. Aimed at passengers who have booked on the website or via our call centre, this service is available up to three hours before the check-in deadline; it allows passengers to choose their seat and print out their boarding card.

Why not join Flying Blue?

Although Air France is one of our shareholders, Transavia does not have a frequent flyer programme, which would be too costly for a low-fare airline. The company prefers to focus on service quality. On certain routes, however, we receive requests from regular customers who subscribe to our newsletter so that they can take advantage of preferential fares in advance of special offers. Transavia does not run last-minute promotions.
