The demise of India's Jet Airways more than two years ago left a gaping hole for the Franco-Dutch group. Air France-KLM. With flights to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore from Paris and Amsterdam, the two airlines had access to a network of over fifty destinations.
The new codeshare agreement signed with IndiGo will enable both carriers to regain privileged access to India. As part of the partnership, Air France and KLM to offer customers access to 25 new points in India. Subject to government approval, this cooperation will begin in February 2022.
Air France currently serves four cities in India from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Bangalore, Chennai (Madras), Delhi and Mumbai, while KLM serves Delhi and Mumbai from Amsterdam..
In a press release, the carriers also explain that on departures from the provinces in India, " Air France and KLM to open their global network of over 250 destinations with more than 120 destinations in Europe and around 50 in America.
According to network analyses carried out by OAG Schedules Analyser, IndiGo has regained full domestic service. However, its international capacity remains 50% lower than before the pandemic. IndiCo offers 7.9 million seats on domestic routes. Internationally, 407,000 seats are on offer this December.
Agreement also with Italy's ITA
The agreement with IndiGo is the second signed this month. A little earlier, the Air France-KLM group finalised code-share agreements with Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA) Airways.
This commercial partnership, which came into force on 13 December, enables Air France and KLM customers access to 12 ITA destinations in Italy and Southern Europe. ITA customers can book Air France-KLM flights in Europe, the UK and Scandinavia.
Air France, KLM and ITA now facilitate connecting passengers from their hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam Schiphol and Rome Fiumicino. With a single ticket, customers can check in their baggage right up to their final destination.
