It has to be said that the Normandy hub actually turned its fortunes around last year, with traffic in increase of 40 % compared with 2020, to reach 227,168 passengers. Business travellers are no strangers to this upturn in activity, with Caen-Carpiquet's management pointing out " The airport has a loyal business customer base ". Lyon, Marseille and Ajaccio are the top three destinations served from Normandy airport, according to data provided by the hub's management. Even so, the hub has not returned to pre-Covid levels, with passenger traffic still 25% below 2019 levels, and business still heavily influenced by seasonal peaks.
What about 2022 ? This year, ten destinations will be served from Caen airport - Ajaccio, Bastia, Biarritz, Calvi, Figari, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nice and Toulouse - operated by Air France and Volotea. But above all, the Normandy hub is preparing for the future with structural works. After investing some €60,000 last year to reorganise the external passenger reception area, Caen-Carpiquet plans to add a second area of this type this year, and to improve access for passengers in cars. From April onwards, a user car park with 450 spaces will be open to the public. Above all, the airport is preparing to take on a new dimension, as 2022 will see the launch of the project management competition for the creation of a new terminal. To be continued.
