Fuel surcharges are back in air transport

The surge in oil prices, which now appear to be well above the 100 dollar a barrel mark, is inevitably leading to an increase in air fares. This includes a return to fuel surcharges.

Some aviation experts speak of 8% on average. Others put the figure at 15%. In all cases, they are unanimously predicting an increase in air fares. Either through a traditional rise in prices (a trend that has largely been underway since January), or through adding a fuel surcharge. For example, the low-cost carrier AirAsiawhich is very hostile to a fuel surcharge - it abolished it completely in 2015 - has just reintroduced it.
