Almost every week brings a new batch of sustainable labels for MICE destinations. After Lille Grand Palais and Zénith de Lille in mid-June, followed more recently by Biarritz Tourisme and its convention centres, Congrès et Expositions de Bordeaux receives ISO 20121 certificationthe international standard designed to promote sustainable development as an integral part of the events business. This process, launched a few months ago, is in addition to the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications already awarded to Bordeaux's conference venues for their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
This award reinforces the city's commitment to sustainable tourism, Bordeaux Convention and Visitors Bureau has been able to boast this 20121 certification since last year, as well as the " An innovative and sustainable destination "awarded last April. The operator of the city's main venues dedicated to business tourism - the Parc des Expositions and Palais 2 l'Atlantique, the Palais des Congrès and the Cité Mondiale Convention Centre, as well as Hangar 14 - is therefore providing organisers with a further guarantee of its commitment to a virtuous events policy.
" We want to integrate the concepts of climate change, the circular economy, environmental protection and pollution prevention into our business activities today and in the future,
both internally and in the solutions offered to our customers and in the relationships established with our suppliers, partners and other interested parties" said Stéphane Kintzig, General Manager of Congrès et Expositions de Bordeaux.
In conjunction with Congrès et Expositions de Bordeaux, Destination Rennes has added two new CSR awards These include the Tourisme & Handicap label, promoting the destination's accessibility to people with disabilities, and the Tourisme Equitable label, recognising the city's commitment to responsible tourism based on local know-how. As operator of the Rennes Métropole convention centre and the Couvent des Jacobins, Destination Rennes had already obtained ISO 20121 certification in 2021 and the Sustainable Innovative Destination label in 2022.
