The world's gastronomy comes to Luxembourg

The World Cup has already come to an end. The gastronomy cup, organised in Luxembourg as part of the Expogast trade fair for the general public. This is an event that takes place every four years, showcasing the country's expertise in staging world-class events.

An event that takes place every four years, teams from all over the world, dreams of stars... Sound familiar? Yes, the Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup! While the stars of the round ball were gathering in Qatar, it was in Luxembourg that the Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup took place. 75 teams from 55 countries in a highly competitive World Cup of Gastronomy. Covered by more than 150 journalists, this was the first time any of the following had taken part in the competition top chefs from Australia, Japan, Armenia and France. And in this game of culinary excellence, it's not always France that wins, as the Swiss junior and senior teams won over a jury of hotel and restaurant luminaries.

Organised by Vatel-Luxembourg, the Grand Duchy's association of professional chefs, one of the world's most prestigious competitions was held over five days at the end of November. And it was held alongside the Expogast trade show for the general public, dedicated to tableware and gastronomy, which brought together 200 exhibitors. Orchestrated on the technical side by communications agency Brain&more and Codex Events, this double event was hosted at Luxexpo The Boxone of the many places Luxembourg City has to offer organisers of world-class events.

Located on the Kirchberg plateau, in Luxembourg's business district and close to the European institutions, the Luxexpo The Box conference centre offers 34 000 m2 modular, flexible spaces. With some thirty multi-purpose rooms for meetings, conferences and banquets, the venue can accommodate all types of event, from seminars for 100 people to trade fairs and exhibitions for over 3,000 participants.

General mobilisation

This success owes much to local energy federation to succeed in the tour de force of bringing together the cream of the world's gastronomy in Luxembourg every four years, for 14 editions now. " This is a real logistical feat, made possible by the mobilisation of a circle of loyal sponsors, committed partners and passionate friends who want to offer a showcase for gastronomy, its values and its professions. The Luxembourg Hotel and Tourism School, for example, made its facilities, staff and 300 students available, while a number of hotels lent their kitchens so that the 400 competitors could train during the World Cup. For its part, the Fédération nationale des hôteliers, des restaurateurs et cafetiers (National Federation of Hoteliers, Restaurant Owners and Cafe Owners) was obviously involved in the event. an event that contributes to the vitality of Luxembourg gastronomy and the attractiveness of the sector to future talent.

More broadly, these two events have the active support of the Ministries of the Economy and Tourism, as well as the Chamber of Commerce, which see this as an opportunity to promoting Luxembourg's excellence. A number of local businesses were able to showcase their products and expertise, including food distributor La Provençale, which transformed an entire hall into a multi-sensory experience, Boissons Heintz and Sources Rosport, which supplies table water. The Luxembourg vineyards was naturally in the spotlight, with the active participation of the Institut Viti-Vinicole, the Vignerons Indépendants, the Caves Bernard-Massard and the Domaines Vinsmoselle. Villeroy & Boch, the sponsor of the Culinary World Cup, presented each winner with a plate specially designed by the famous Luxembourg graffiti artist SUMO.
