Leaving their private vehicles in the garage and replacing them with more environmentally-friendly alternatives: French professionals are ready to take the multimodal step, according to the latest Enterprise survey.

There is still a long way to go for a more sustainable approach to commuting. But the French professionals seem ready to make the switch, provided they are encouraged to do so and viable options are available. This is the lesson to be learned from the study recently published by Enterprise. The starting point is the fact that the personal vehicle is still an essential part of the commuting. Nearly eight out of ten professionals (78%) use it to get to work. And in 16% of cases, they do so more than four times a month. Conversely, only 26% use public transport for their travels...
There is still a long way to go for a more sustainable approach to commuting. But the French professionals seem ready to make the switch, provided they are encouraged to do so and viable options are available. This is the lesson to be learned from the study recently published by Enterprise. The starting point is the fact that the personal vehicle is still an essential part of the commuting. Nearly eight out of ten professionals (78%) use it to get to work. And in 16% of cases, they do so more than four times a month. Conversely, only 26% use public transport for their business trips. Half of the drivers (51%) who travel to work by car would like to favour multimodal travel.
In addition to the rental car used for car-pooling - an option logically put forward by Enterprise, which has a dedicated Car Share service - the multimodal alternatives envisaged concern the bicycles and / or electric vehicles, the scooters and of course the public transport. Nearly one employee in five (19%) also sees the multimodal shift as an opportunity to be more physically active. As for public transport, its use depends of course on the quality of the network, which varies greatly from one geographical area to another. For 7 out of 10 drivers (70 %) the three quarters or less of their business travel were not possible using public transport alone, says the Enterprise study.
The latter points to the need for a more proactive policy to develop the multimodal aspect. Enterprise believes that, as far as business travel by car is concerned, 29% of drivers would like to use a hire car provided by their employer. In addition, the study notes that 43% of professionals are in favour of incentives for them and their employer to encourage multi-modal journeys, in particular to and from work. tax cuts.
It should be noted that the issue of commuting can be particularly strategic for the HR department. Enterprise believes that more than half of employees who drive to work (54 %) might consider changing jobs to work in a company with better measures to avoid using private vehicles for business travel.
