From King to Gran. One of Spain's great hotels for events and meetings. Launched for the Barcelona Olympic Games to welcome sports delegations with the honours due to their rank, the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I stopped its career in 2020, hit by the pandemic. The Melia Group is taking up the story of this an emblematic establishment in the Catalan metropolistransformed into a Gran Melia, the Gran Melia Torre Melina. It's like returning to our roots, this name referring to the name of the residence that had been established there since the 12th century and surrounded by a beautiful English garden at the end of the 19th century at the request of its owners at the time.
While the hotel designed by architect Carlos Ferrater has been completely redesigned and enhanced with a contemporary look, the garden is still there, stretching over 25,000 m², providing a green setting for this urban resort. But it's also the perfect place for outdoor receptions. While the Gran Melia plays the leisure card to the full with its three indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa and artificial beach, it is also, and above all, a venue for business meetings.
Ideally located on Avenida Diagonal, Barcelona's main thoroughfare, the Gran Melia Torre Melina has direct access to its neighbour, the Palau de Congresos de Catalunya. Two auditoriums and a large exhibition hall, 43 multi-purpose rooms, a capacity of over 2,000 people: the venue has everything it takes to host major business events, with the hotel now added to extend the range. In addition to its 391 rooms, including 61 suites, the hotel offers 18 indoor and outdoor meeting rooms. Finally, for exclusive cocktails, the hotel also lends its rooftop, located on the 16th floor, offering 360º views.
The Spanish group's twelfth establishment in the Catalan capital adds a further exclusive RedLevel show, where " guests can expect an even more personalised service, with access to VIP areas and exclusive facilities" says General Manager Ramón Vidal Castro. As it comes on stream, the facility will offer new catering outlets with, from February, the Erre de Urrechu grill, under the direction of the chef from the famous Michelin-starred restaurant Zalacain. Spring will see the opening of a poolside culinary area in association with the Beso brand, as well as the opening of the Chroma area, run by renowned mixologist Erik Lorincz. The Gran Melia Torre Melina is set to become one of Barcelona's hottest meeting places.
