The NH Hotels group may still be remembered by its brands, but it is leaving the hotel business for good. Founded in 1978 with the opening of the NH Ciudad in Pamplona, over the decades the Spanish hotelier has become one of the major groups in Spain and Europe, reaching 380 establishments at the time of its takeover by Minor International at the end of 2018.
The logical consequence of this acquisition by the Thai group that owns the Anantara and Avani brands, NH Hotel Group is now taking on the identity of its owner to become Minor Hotels Europe & Americas. " A milestone in the development of Minor Hotels into a world-renowned organisation" said Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels, welcoming a common identity that will strengthen and clarify the group's commercial and operational structure on a global scale.
This same global identity is in line with the Thai group's strategy and the development of synergies between its eight brands, some of Asian origin, others born in Europe. While the NH and NH Collection brands have begun to expand in the Asian, Middle Eastern and Indian Ocean markets, the Anantara and now Avani brands are making inroads in Europe, as shown by the recent openings of the Anantara Palais Hansen in Vienna and the Avani Frankfurt City, the result of the conversion of a former NH Collection.
Of its 540 establishments worldwide, Minor Hotels Europe & Americas will manage more than half - 350 establishments in 30 countries in Europe and America - while participating in the development of the group's various brands in these regions of the world, in particular the upmarket and luxury brands. Minor Hotels plans to open 200 hotels worldwide by the end of 2026, more than 50 of which will be in Europe, and new openings are also planned in the Americas.
