A carbon footprint calculator created for the events industry by the events industry; a solution that is flexible enough to reflect the reality on the ground of the various trades, from venue operation to caterers, stand design and design agencies, but also very rigorous in terms of data collection and reporting. With its Cleo Carbone calculator, the Union Française des Métiers de l'Événement (UNIMEV) is offering the sector an effective tool as part of its ecological transition.

This common tool is a strong message from events professionalsshowing third parties the trajectory of the profession" said Philippe Pasquet, Co-Chairman of UNIMEV and Chairman of GL Events Exhibitions, at the presentation of this calculator, which is set to become an industry standard. Since 2015, UNIMEV has already had a tool for analysing the economic performance of event companies, developed in conjunction with Choose Paris Région, and this idea has been duplicated more specifically to measure the carbon footprint, as the two independent tools can now be used in a complementary manner.

This project, to be launched in spring 2023, is based on a solution developed by Kabaun, a carbon management platform for businesses, which has been adapted to the different event industry professions. The tool facilitates the consolidation of sectoral data, enabling the creation of dedicated and relevant databases for professionals in the sector" says Nicolas Soum, founder of Kabaun, adding that its platform encompasses 17,000 emissions factors, covering all scopes.

Over the past six months, a number of beta testers have been able to try out the solution, with positive feedback. " We had our hopes up at the outset, but this tool is very efficient for design agencies, and its framework corresponds to our business." said Didier Hocquaux, co-president of LEADS, the association of stand, event and commercial design professionals. "Finally, the events industry will be able to collect and share data." Pauline Teyssedre, President of Fabrik Responsable UNIMEV and Strategic and CSR Director at GALIS, was delighted to see that this first stage in measuring the carbon footprint is a way of bringing all the sectors together to work towards "sustainable development" events. with positive impacts "in the future.

We have real statistics at our disposal so that we can involve all our service providers, both large and small, beyond our own sector." says Audrey Chavancy, CSR Director at GL Events. In addition to these service providers, the Cleo Carbone tool is also used internally, to define the carbon footprint the company and its customers. "Until now, we've been using Excel. But, at some point, that has its limits, especially for a group listed on the stock exchange, with an audited carbon footprint for which the reliability of the data is extremely important, remarks Audrey Chavancy. On the other hand, our corporate customers in France and abroad need'information on the footprint of their events. We're all moving in the same direction" .

This centralised carbon management tool is offered by UNIMEV at a variable price adapted to the size of the company, with an unlimited number of projects and user accounts.
