Aircraft shortages and delivery delays are a godsend for Lufthansa's long-haul passengers on its Frankfurt hub. The company has decided to transfer six Airbus A350-900 aircraft from its second base in Munich to its main hub. Four of these ultra-modern, highly fuel-efficient aircraft have now been deployed from Frankfurt since the start of the summer programme on 30 March. Two further A350-900s will be added in May and July.
The four aircraft have been in service on routes to Seoul and Shanghai since 30 March.. Denver to follow on 1 May. While the Frankfurt-Seattle to wait for A350-900 until 1 July.
Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlinesexplained the decision in detail. " With the temporary deployment of A350s from Frankfurt, we are filling a gap caused by delays in aircraft deliveries. These aircraft make it possible to offer an enhanced travel experience from Frankfurt until new long-haul aircraft are delivered. Over the next 36 months, Lufthansa is planning the biggest fleet renewal in its history. By the end of 2027, 61 new aircraft should be added to the fleet. This represents an average of one new aircraft every fortnight. ".
Airbus A350s without Allegris
The A350-900 consumes only around 2.5 litres of paraffin per passenger per 100 kilometres of flight. This reduces CO2 emissions by 30 % compared with previous models. The aircraft is also much quieter. At the moment, 30 Airbus A350-900s in service from MunichA further 14 aircraft of this type are scheduled to join the fleet by 2029.
Nevertheless, passengers in Frankfurt who dreamed of flying on the new Allegris cab will be disappointed. The Allegris product is only available on A350-900s departing from Munich.!
