In its latest Responsible Business 2024 report, the Radisson Group is keen to highlight the progress it has made in terms of sustainability and responsibility. With, for example, more than half of its hotel portfolio certified or 95 hotels using 100 % of renewable electricity, 33 % reduction in carbon emissions per m² compared to 2019, but also 30 % of women in leadership roles, 57,200 hours of volunteering and 9.4 million Radisson Rewards points donated to charity partners. As part of its global programmes such as the 100 % carbon offset meetings, the group also says it has invested in 115,000 tonnes of voluntary carbon credits since 2019.
Committed to a zero-emissions trajectory by 2050, Radisson Hotel Group also welcomed the Net Zero certification by TÜV Rheinland of two of its hotels. This first award, which recognises their exemplary approach to sustainable hotel management, also stands out because these establishments are the result of the conversion of existing buildings rather than new constructions, as is the case with the voco Zeal Exeter Science Park opened last year by the IHG group. " The transition is certainly easier with new establishments, but the reality is that 80 % of the buildings that are due to become Net Zero by 2050 have already been built. We believe it is essential to convert existing buildings as quickly as possible "comments Federico J. González, Executive Vice President of Radisson Hotel Group.
As for those already converted, the former Park Inn by Radisson Manchester City Centre has taken advantage of its changeover to the Radisson brand to drastically reduce its footprint. From July, the Park Inn by Radisson Oslo City Centre will become the Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, also meeting the 2000+ requirements set by the Net Zero methodology for hotels. These establishments are applying measures to eliminate Scope 1 and 2 emissions, significantly reduce Scope 3 emissions and, for the remainder, offset the remaining footprint with nature-based solutions and carbon sequestration in partnership with Agreena.
Among the points in common, these two hotels are united by the use of 100 % renewable energy and the changeover of kitchens to induction hobs and "low emission" catering, Radisson having teamed up with Klimato in particular to develop low-carbon menusincluding for meetings and events.
At the same time, among the measures put in place to reduce or recycle wasteThese include technological solutions such as the eSmiley food waste management software and a Stay e-concierge application to limit the use of paper, the use of the Too Good to Go platform to distribute uneaten ingredients, and the recycling of coffee capsules in partnership with Nespresso. In addition, of course, to providing glass rather than plastic water bottles in both rooms and conference rooms.
"For the first time, we are focusing on reducing energy, operational and supply chain emissionssaid Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability and Safety Officer for Radisson Hotel Group. As we face up to the ever-changing challenge of climate change, Radisson Hotel Group is an essential step towards the overhaul of the hotel industry, with one Net Zero certified hotel after another.
