This is a true monument of Aix-en-Provence's hotel industry, a venerable institution, which has just received a new crowning glory. The renewal of the Roi René, more precisely the Grand Hôtel Roi René Aix-en-Provence – MGallery Collection, was celebrated on 28 May. And as proof of the event's importance, the Mayor of the town made the journey to bear witness to the attachment of the people of Aix to this « Caption ". " This new hotel is magnificent » enthused Sophie Joissains on Thursday evening. « It has its rightful place, obviously, in the attractiveness that we are so envied for within the Bouches-du-Rhône, and even more so within the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. ".

Before being able to open this new chapter in its history, the Roi René had to undergo a total renovation: more than a year of work was necessary. And while the establishment managed to remain operational during this period, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Convention, Events) activities were put on hold for about six months.

The Grand Hôtel Roi René has 131 rooms, including 6 suites and 17 luxury rooms with terraces.

As summer approaches, the Grand Hôtel Roi René is now fully ready to welcome business travellers, visiting or local professionals, and of course, tourist clientele. The number of rooms has remained almost unchanged, as has the space allocated to MICE. However, the event spaces and the 131 rooms, including 6 suites, have undergone a makeover that clearly signifies an upgrade for the 4-star hotel.

Local colour

The new aesthetic for Le Roi René is by Fabien Roque. The interior designer and decorator, who regularly collaborates with the Accor group – among others – wanted to pay homage to Provence, through a play of natural colours: terracotta, olive green, beige, and shades of wood.

Fabien Roque also drew on the work of various artists, including ceramicist Marie Levêque. This was all combined with high-quality materials and bespoke furniture, thus contributing to the establishment's upscale positioning.

As Aix-en-Provence aims to establish itself as " a four-season destination » according to Sophie Joissains, business tourism is set to play a major role in the future. The Roi René's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities are therefore crucial. The establishment is equipped with five meeting rooms, covering a total area of 230 m² in plenary format, with movable partitions that allow for the combination of several rooms. « When you open everything up, it's quite grand. We can host 180 people. ", testifies Elisabeth Mendes, General Manager of the Grand Hôtel Roi René Aix-en-Provence.

The Grand Hôtel Roi René has 5 meeting rooms and 360 m² of event space.

In total, the establishment boasts 360 m² of event space. In addition to this seminar area, the establishment has planned different "spots" in the lobby and the new Aïga restaurant that can attract professionals, again by playing on the modularity of the spaces with soundproof curtains. The patio can also be privatised. It was indeed here, next to the (14m) swimming pool and its "French Riviera" furniture, that the celebrations linked to the renewal of King René were held. You can have leisure clientele and accommodate seminars without realising it. Fabien [Roque] has really created spaces that are very different throughout the day. » describes Elisabeth Mendes.

The hotel swimming pool is 14m long and 6m wide.

The General Manager of the Grand Hôtel Roi René Aix-en-Provence mentioned during her speech “ a moment of pride, emotion, and rebirth. For nine years now, I've had the immense privilege of managing the Grand Hôtel Roi René, MGallery. This iconic establishment is the heart of our city and welcomes travellers from all over the world. And this evening, it is with immense pride that I welcome you on behalf of the owners, the teams, and everyone who brings this exceptional place to life. » continues Elisabeth Mendes. No end to the reign is in sight for King René, who intends more than ever to seduce a demanding clientele, loyal to Provence and in search of contemporary luxury.
