British Airways is moving to real-time information, with push notifications sent via the airline's application, which will focus on personalising the service by using iBeacon technology.

In addition to the "basic" information given to passengers before their flight - boarding gate, start of boarding - British Airways intends to refine the possibilities offered to business travellers by giving them a personalised welcome message and Wi-Fi password as soon as they enter the lounge in Terminal 5 at London Heathrow. This makes British Airways the first British airline to use iBeacon technology in its lounges. "The possibilities for making the most of mobile and digital technology are endless, but they need to be developed with real, balanced added value without overwhelming our customers," warns Elisabeth Ruff, Commercial Director France at British Airways. "With this application, we have a unique opportunity to meet the needs of our passengers and make their journey even more enjoyable. They will now have access to useful information, such as announcements about their boarding gate or the password for Wi-Fi access, which adds real value to the travel experience".
