The renovation project presented by Nice Côte d'Azur Airport management on 14 November will be carried out in two stages. The first stage, which began in January 2015, will involve Terminal 1, followed by the transformation of Terminal 2. The first is due to be completed in May 2016, the second twelve months later. In a second phase, the extension of the Terminal 2 terminal will complete this vast makeover, which should "position the Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur group on a fully European scale", according to the press release published on Friday. The creation of a new module built in the extension of the "cone" should be completed by 2020. The comfort and fluidity of the passenger journey will be at the heart of this major project, as evidenced by the doubling of the commercial areas and comfort zones, and the creation of a single large "security" zone to absorb peaks in passenger numbers more effectively. "This vast project, which involves a complete rethink of the existing buildings, will involve the overhaul of Terminals 1 & 2, as well as the construction of a new extension. The end result will be a smoother passenger journey, increased operating space and traffic capacity, and a revitalised commercial offering," sums up Dominique Thillaud, Chairman of the Management Board of Aéroports de la Côte d'Azur, who is already looking ahead to "an ambitious future, which opens up wide prospects for our Group and its customers alike".
