Last December, for the first time in its history, Bordeaux airport passed the symbolic 5 million passenger mark. All in all, the airport recorded almost 5,300,000 passengers in 2015 alone. It also recorded the highest growth rate (7.6%) of France's major regional airports.
International traffic and low-cost carriers appear to be the two main drivers of these good results. Low-cost carriers made a major contribution - 65% - to the growth recorded in 2015. London (+6%), Amsterdam (+24%), Lisbon (+18.4%), Geneva (+5.2%) and Basel (+5.1%) were the destinations cited by Bordeaux airport management as recording the strongest growth.
Bordeaux airport now intends to "consolidate its position as an international airport in the new Greater Region", by relying on the ten new routes that will be launched at the beginning of the year, notably to Berlin, Barcelona, Marseille, Madrid and Hamburg. Special attention will be paid to business travellers, who should be able to access a new company lounge with 110 seats from next spring, on level 2 of Hall A: 230 m² of facilities, offering a workspace, a catering offer, a personalised welcome, and a reading and relaxation area with a television corner.
