Lufthansa goes digital for luggage

Lufthansa's suitcases enter the digital age
Lufthansa modernises baggage information management

The new service options integrated into the Lufthansa application allow business travellers to view the location of their baggage, using the link on their mobile boarding pass. In practical terms, once they have arrived at their destination, passengers are informed of the carousel in which their baggage will be distributed. From June onwards, the exact delivery time will also be available, so that passengers do not needlessly scan the conveyor belt... In the event of unforeseen circumstances - "exceptional", the airline assures passengers - where the baggage arrives on another flight, a notification is sent to the passenger, who can then request that the baggage be forwarded by form. Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart and Milan will be the first destinations to benefit from these new options.

Alongside these new mobile options, Lufthansa is launching a print-at-home baggage tag, as part of a trial with the European Commission. "Passengers travelling within the EU can print their baggage tag at home, on standard paper, then place it in a transparent folder attached to the box", explains the airline.
