For the sixth year running, Zurich came top of the "Best cities to live in" ranking drawn up by human resources consultancy Mercer HRC, published on 2 April. Each year, this ranking compares the quality of life in more than 200 major cities around the world, according to 39 criteria including the political and social environment, medical and socio-cultural infrastructure, housing, leisure activities, etc.
While the real value of this type of composite index is open to debate, Zurich's traditional top ranking nevertheless symbolises the quality of the working environment in this city on a human scale (a conurbation of 1.2 million inhabitants), with an efficient healthcare system, excellent public transport links and surrounded by green hills that can be reached in ten minutes from the city centre.
Switzerland is definitely in the limelight in this ranking, with Geneva in second place, just a hair's breadth behind Zurich.
