Up to 40% of additional flights from December until the beginning of January and 12% of additional capacity from the start of the winter timetable on 25 October: Brussels Airlines favours its favourite continent, Africain its winter programmes.
The continent is an essential element in the Belgian company's positioning. In 2018, Brussels Airlines served 22 destinations in Africa, including 17 in Sub-Saharan Africa.. It dedicated seven aircraft out of its fleet of 48 to African services alone. In 2018, the carrier carried 1.2 million passengers to and from Africa out of a total of 10 million passengers.
14 African cities from Brussels
With the start of the winter season, Brussels Airlines will be operating 14 intercontinental destinationsall in Africa. Flights to Luanda are scheduled to resume in February. The main new feature is a daily flight to Abidjan. While Dakar remains at five weekly frequencies, Kinshasa is moving to 4 weekly frequencies. Accra, Freetown and Monrovia will be increased from two to three flights a week. To Banjul, Brussels Airlines will add a second weekly frequency.
Throughout December, Brussels Airlines will be stepping up its services to Banjul, Bujumbura, Dakar, Douala, Entebbe, Freetown, Kigali, Kinshasa, Monrovia and Yaoundé.
Outside Africa, the airline has no plans to reopen its short- or medium-haul network. The only change is to Berlin airport. On November 8, the airline will begin flights on Berlin Brandenburg International instead of Tegel.
Brussels Airlines also plans to resume flights on New York-JFK with three weekly frequencies next February. This route was originally scheduled to start on 1 October.
French passengers arriving from a red zone must undergo compulsory quarantine and present a negative covid test.According to information from the SPF (Service du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères), this obligation no longer applies to passengers transferring at Brussels airport. However, it is advisable to double-check this information with the airline before departure.
