"The airport of the future": this is what Aéroports de Paris is already promising, with the start of tests on its new automatic baggage drop-off system. Tried out at Paris-Orly airport's West terminal, the new service is certainly performing well, with check-in time limited to 30 seconds. In practice, passengers print out their boarding card at a self-service kiosk and collect their baggage tag, which they affix to their baggage. They then proceed to the new automatic zone, where they insert their baggage into the machine after scanning their boarding pass. Once identity and weight checks have been carried out, the passenger receives a receipt. "This service, which we have developed in its entirety, meets a twofold challenge: to offer airlines wishing to do so a system that makes the baggage drop-off stage more fluid, and to satisfy passengers who are asking to be increasingly autonomous," says François Rubichon, Deputy CEO of Aéroports de Paris.
