The International Paris Air Show (SIAE) was a real success in the post-Covid era. The show welcomed a record number of 2 500 exhibitors from 46 countries, including 1,130 from France. By comparison, in 2019 the 53rd edition registered 2,450 companies from 49 countries.
The companies taking part in the 54th edition welcomed over 300,000 visitors - including 322 official delegations.. The number of trade visitors totalled almost 130,000, including 43% from outside France.
Above all, the show remains a fantastic platform for exchanges with more than $150 billion in contracts signed this year. Visitors were able to admire some 158 aircraft during the week of this 2023 edition.
As far as orders are concerned, the fact that the show is taking place in Europe is rather favourable for the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. A total of 821 aircraft were registered by Airbus last week, compared with 316 by Boeing..
On the Airbus side, theA320 which did very well, taking 740 orders - notably from Air India, IndiGo and Flynas. At Boeing, it was the 737MAX was the star performer. Airlines ordered 296 examples. Avolon (an aircraft leasing company based in Ireland), Air Algérie, Akasa Air (India), Luxair and Air India took orders.
But there were some notable absentees during the show. There were no purchases by American or Chinese companies. Nor were there any announcements from major European companies. Times are changing...
