Despite the return of spring, the EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse will be in near hibernation from 15 April to 20 May. The reason? The closure of the airport's main runway for a complete renovation, forcing management to drastically reduce the number of flights during these five weeks. Only the secondary runway will be open to traffic during this period, but it can only accommodate a limited number of take-offs and landings.
The paradox is that the airport recently announced its new summer schedule with a record number of countries and destinations served. Basel-Mulhouse will indeed offer around a hundred destinations served by thirty airlines over the summer, mainly in Europe.
New services in 2026 include new lines to BOdrum (1x/week), Chisinau (2x/week), Lille (2x/week), Podgorica (4x/week), Poznan (3x/week), Stockholm (2x/week), Târgu Mureș in Romania (2x/week), and Warsaw (daily).
Minimum flight programme for 5 weeks
However, during the five-week closure, only two companies will operate daily flights: easyJet Switzerland with 29 destinations and GPAviation, which will connect to Pristina in Kosovo. Of these 29 destinations on the easyJet programme, few will also be served by daily flights.
Other airlines have either decided to suspend their flights – such as Air France on Paris-CDG, Lufthansa on Frankfurt and Munich, Turkish Airlines on Istanbul, or flyDubai. Or they will transfer their flights to other airports in the region. This is the case for Wizz Air, which will land in both Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden and Stuttgart in Germany depending on the destination; or Air Arabia, which is bringing its flights back to Strasbourg for Casablanca and Rabat. For business travellers, the best alternative remains Zurich, 100 km from Basel!
It should also be noted that until 17 April, access to the airport on the Swiss side (customs road) will be disrupted by works between 22:00 and 06:00.
