The Brightline rail company, which operates a network of modern intercity trains in the United States, will also become the first company to operate high-speed trains in Floridaand throughout the United States for that matter. On 6 March already, a Brightline train tested at over 209 km/h on a 56 km rail corridor between Orlando International Airport and Cocoa, Florida. The new tracks are built alongside a motorway, which is fenced off and has no level crossings.
During this test period, Brightline trains will be tested at higher speeds than planned. Once in service, passenger trains will run at a maximum speed of 201 km/han average of more than 3km/h per minute.
" Reaching 209 km/h is not just a new milestone for our team, but the pursuit of a dream we've been working towards for several years." said Patrick Goddard, Chairman of Brightline Trains. " More importantly, this historic achievement brings us closer to the launch of the Brightline between Orlando and Miami. "
Miami-Orlando in three hours
The Orlando station, which will open this year, will revolutionise rail travel in the United States. The station will continue Brightline's vision of providing an exceptional travel experience for customers. By linking two of the country's most congested cities, Brightline will transport passengers between Orlando and Miami in around three hours. That's an hour less on average than a journey by car.
