Densifying the base of services provided by the application " CityApp-VDL" is a project that the City of Luxembourg has been running for over a year. It is part of a municipal initiative to make Luxembourg a "smartcityIt was created in consultation with 1,700 participants from the Grand Duchy and cross-border regions. A test period was used to fine-tune the service for users.
CityApp and CityMap cover all your information needs in Luxembourg
Presented at the end of September, CityApp-VDL is designed as a universal information base, accessible to all. It can be accessed by keyword search, but also via five headings: home, explore, mobility, services and notifications. The application is available in three languages: French, English and German.
As soon as the "Home" screen opens, users can personalise the application according to their habits and the information they want to access. Thanks to "widgets", they can see their choices displayed in priority, without having to search through the application.
Each user can therefore designate the services they use on a recurring basis, such as car parks or public transport. The evolving map on the home page allows users to locate themselves geographically in relation to their search.
With CityApp, you can find out about things like air quality, public transport timetables, museums, building sites, taxi ranks, car parks and health trails. The application covers some 5,500 points of interest.
CityApp is complemented by another application created by the city's Topography and Geomatics Department, the "CityMap. It also lists all the points of interest for CityApp users in 43 themed maps. These include a remarkable 3D map offering a panoramic view of the capital of Luxembourg. It also locates the antennae of the free wifi network in the city, as well as the link for registering with the CityApp. citywifi.lu/en.
However, there is just one criticism to be made of this cityapp-VDL, whose development budget came close to 375,000 euros The main drawback is the lack of a section on the range of shops and restaurants on offer. According to the City of Luxembourg's press office, the application's designers are working hard on this.
