Many of the first settlers in Cienfuegos were French, coming from Bordeaux and Louisiana. Like Havana and Trinidad, Cienfuegos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This port and commercial city flourished in the mid-19th century, and still retains the elegance of that period.
