"We hate Sao Paulo, but we love it. We love Rio, but we get tired of it", say the Paulistans. It's easy to see the rivalry between the two cities. One, stifling and grey; the other, touristy and festive. But you have to look beyond the clichés. As the country's economic powerhouse, Sao Paulo is full of hidden beauties. Above all, it is shedding its reputation as an urban jungle. Neighbourhoods are being revitalised, with a new generation of high-tech youngsters. Rio, for its part, is preparing for the summer's big event: the Olympic Games. It's the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate the city by rehabilitating derelict areas, where the "marvellous city" is banking on a booming creative industry.
