We are all familiar with the highly talented chef at the Bristol, who treats his guests to a cuisine that blends French tradition with contemporary creativity. Less well known, however, is the fact that Éric Fréchon worked for a long time at La Verrière, where he pioneered the rules of bistronomy - excellent produce and simple dishes at affordable prices. This spirit continues with Le Lazare, a brasserie in the heart of Saint-Lazare station. More than just a restaurant, it's a place to meet people and enjoy life, open 7 days a week from 7.30am to midnight. Early risers can savour the simplicity of a coffee accompanied by a slice of homemade bread. At lunchtime, this is one of the friendliest places for a business lunch, with its cosy library corner. Light salads, seasonal dishes that change daily - Wednesday's poultry fricassee with yellow wine is to die for - or more elaborate cuisine, with masterpieces such as quail with green cabbage embeurrée. A must, even if you don't have a train to catch!
