Etihad Airways has just announced that it has been forced to completely suspend online check-in for its flights. This suspension covers a period of nine days, from 4 to 12 March.. The only exception is theonline registration for passengers starting their journey from the Abu Dhabi hub will still be possible on 4 and 5 March.
This measure is necessary due to a major IT systems upgrade and the switch to a new software provider. In preparation for this change, Etihad is disabling certain features, including online check-in. The airline admits that the systems upgrade "may result in a less seamless travel experience than passengers are accustomed to".
Etihad advises passengers travelling between these dates to visit etihad.com/faqs. It also suggestsarrive at the airport up to four hours before departure. And bring a printed or electronic copy of your tickets to ensure a smooth and efficient experience.
More flights to Asia and Europe as of the IATA summer season
What's more, the carrier announces an increase in frequencies in Europe and Asia during the IATA summer season. In Europe, the carrier says it offers 20% of additional seats.
This translates into four weekly flights from Frankfurt from 1 May (11 weekly flights). Lisbon-Abu Dhabi will follow on 2 July with three flights a week, then Copenhagen (4 flights/week) and Düsseldorf (3 flights/week) in early October.
In Asia, Etihad is launching a second daily flight to Bangkok on 26 March. On the same date, the carrier will resume its daily service to Abu Dhabi-Calcutta. It will also move to two daily flights to Jakarta from 1 October.
