Bulgaria has just published the timetable for this transition from the local currency to the euro. The parity is set at 1.95583 Bulgarian lev to the euro.. However, prices will be rounded up or down depending on the case. For example, 5 levs will represent €2.56.
Also, from 8 August 2025, consumers will see prices displayed in both Bulgarian levs and eurosThis is part of an effort to ease the transition and avoid confusion. However, payments will continue to be made exclusively in levs. Exceptions are permitted, such as books whose prices have already been printed or taximeters that have already been installed.
After the official adoption of the euro on 1 JanuaryA phase will follow until 31 January 2026, where levs and euros will be accepted simultaneously. However, retailers will give change in euros. Levs will only be used if change in euros is not available. It is important to note that mixing the two currencies in the change given will be prohibited in order to avoid any confusion.
From 1 February 2026, the euro will become the only legal tender.However, dual pricing will continue until the end of the year.
