Despite the difficult economic climate, 2011 looks set to be a positive year for the air transport market. This is the lesson to be learned from the forecasts published by the International Air Transport Association, which predict a significant increase in passenger numbers (+5.9%): figures revised upwards compared with the last forecasts (+4.4%). Nevertheless, the association remains cautious, stressing the lack of revenue growth for airlines expected for 2011, and even more so for 2012. "The airlines will make a little more profit than we expected", explains Tony Tyler in the press release published on 20 September. However, the association's CEO added: "Airlines are struggling in a very tough environment. And 2012 will be even tougher.
Rising figures but cautious optimism for IATA
Airlines should see an increase in passenger numbers over the course of 2011, according to figures published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which nevertheless remains very cautious about the short-term situation.
