While the actions of Google are closely watched by the travel industry, which is well aware that its sheer strength poses a competitive threat of XXL proportions, and every announcement has the potential to shake things up. The latest, published on 14 May on the American giant's blog, talks about " a new, simpler way of organising your journeys "All of which fuelled the hopes of some, and the fears of others. However, the impact of this news needs to be put into perspective, at least for the time being. Above all, Google has decided to improve the desktop version of its travel interface, by adding a feature that has already been available on mobile for several months. What's more, this portal is currently limited to the American market - it should be arriving on the French web in a few weeks' time - and consists mainly of bringing together Google's travel tools in a single interface, in particular Google Flights, Google Hotels and travel companion Google Trips. Above all, this new Google/travel portal is a reminder that Google has not lost sight of the travel sector, is continuing to make inroads there, and may soon be asserting its ambitions in the mobile sector in a more significant way.
