For Hawaiian Airlines, 2026 will mean an ambitious $600 million investment plan designed to fundamentally transform the passenger travel experience. A plan approved by its parent company, Alaska Airlines.
The announcement was made by Diana Birkett Rakow, the airline's Managing Director, in the presence of the Governor of the State of Hawaii, Josh Green, the Director of the State Department of Transportation and Honolulu airport officials.
Known as the Kahu'ewai Hawai'i Investment Plan, this investment programme will last 5 years and will be an in-depth revolution not only of the on-board product but also of the technological offering and airport infrastructure.
According to the CEO, this transformation will be carried out in cooperation with Hawaiian's customers, who have been involved in consultations on the product.
In terms of the in-flight experience, the airline has announced that it will begin configuring the cabins on its A330s in 2028. The new cabins will feature first-class suites, an Economy Premium cabin and a new in-flight entertainment system.
On the ground, one of the flagship projects is the opening of a new 1600 m² premium lounge in Honolulu airport's Terminal 1. It should be available to passengers before the end of the year and will complement the existing lounge offer at the hub. Hawaiian Airlines is also planning a complete renovation of the departure halls and boarding piers at all airports in the Pacific archipelago until 2029.
Finally, on the digital front, the company will be launching a new mobile application and a redesigned website. It will offer greater flexibility, allowing simplified travel management, same-day changes, use of miles with international partners and upgrades.
