While visiting Paris in 1925, he was captivated by a Mayan statue, the chac-mol, depicting a man lying on his elbows, his legs bent and his head turned 90°. This work determined his sculptural conception, an interweaving of convex and concave forms articulated around large voids. The exhibition brings together more than 150 major works, including sculptures in stone, wood and bronze, as well as drawings, all featuring his famous recurring recumbent figure; but also abstract compositions and other drawings of London during the bombings of the last war.
