While Ennismore, Accor's lifestyle hotel subsidiary, has just passed the 100-establishment mark with the opening of SO/Paris, its brand The Hoxton is already preparing new developments. Seven new hotels are due to open in Europe by the beginning of 2024, completing its network in major business metropolises such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, LondonParis and Rome in Europe, and New York, Chicago and Los Angeles on the other side of the Atlantic.
The top-of-the-range brand is therefore preparing to further roll out its a contemporary concept with lively lobbies, attractive bars and restaurants and designer rooms. Not forgetting an innovative seminar offering, The Apartment, based around rooms grouped around a kitchen and lounge for convivial corporate meetings and events.
Some of the future hotels had already been announced, and their opening dates are now more precise. Starting with the Hoxton Shepherd's Bush, the brand's fourth address in its home town of London. Expected to open in early December, this hotel near Portobello Road in the west of the British capital will include 237 rooms, as well as a Thai-American fusion restaurant, a bar and terrace, and The Apartment.
A very business-like Hoxton in Brussels
Another facility already announced is Brusselswhich will open its doors in spring 2023 near the Botanical Gardens. Given its location - the hotel revisits IBM's former European headquarters, housed in a tower that is symbolic of seventies architecture, in a brutalist style - The Hoxton will naturally have a business connotation. As well as meeting space, the building will feature The Hoxton's coworking brand, Working From_which will occupy four floors of the building. Business travellers will enjoy 198 rooms, a restaurant and two bars, including one on the rooftop.
German-speaking Europe will see the opening in summer 2023 of a 234-room hotel in Berlin, in the Charlottenburg district to the west of the German capital. The golden age of 1920s Berlin will be the common thread running through the design of the establishment, which will feature a cocktail bar and café, a restaurant and a meeting space, appropriately inspired by the salons of the 1920s.
In Vienna, at the end of 2023, The Hoxton will move into the walls of the former headquarters of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. A modernist building from the 1950s, a period that will also inspire the atmosphere of this 196-room hotel. Travellers will find all the elements of a lifestyle hotel, with a speakeasy-style bar in the basement and a café-bar, a restaurant and terrace, and of course a rooftop with a bar and swimming pool. For business travellers, the Hoxton Vienne will offer The Apartment space, as well as an auditorium. A first for one of the brand's hotels.
Among the newly announced destinations, the future Dublin Hoxton will be offering another first with a nightclub integrated into its premises. To make its debut in the Irish capital, scheduled for early 2024, the Ennismore chain will take over and transform the former Central Hotel, located in the heart of the city on Exchequer Street. The restoration of this historic red brick building will see the preservation of the Library Bar, with its cosy atmosphere, and will provide 129 rooms, a restaurant and a wine bar.
Still in the British Isles, and prior to this opening in Dublin, the brand will also appear in Edinburgh in the summer of 2023in the Haymarket district. Not far from the conference centre and the station serving the UK's major cities, this original hotel will be the result of the transformation of 10 Georgian houses on either side of the street. The result will be a 211-room complex that will also include a restaurant and large event spaces. There will also be three 'Hox Homes', three-bedroom flats for group stays or long stays.
Finally, the lifestyle brand is also preparing to make a new foray into Amsterdam in spring 2023. Following the opening of its first hotel in 2015 on the banks of the Herengracht canal, The Hoxton is preparing to move into the up-and-coming Eastern Docklands district - Oostelijk Havengebied - a 10-minute cycle ride from Centraal station. As in Dublin, this new hotel will incorporate the walls of an old establishmentThe Lloyd Hotel, opened in 1921 by the Royal Dutch Lloyd shipping company to accommodate emigrants from South America during their quarantine. A building with a multi-faceted past, since it was later a reception centre for Jewish refugees, then a detention centre during the Nazi occupation, a prison for juvenile delinquents from 1964 to 1989, before housing artists' studios and galleries. Closed since 2021, the building will be renovated, preserving its listed architectural details inspired by German Expressionism. In total, the hotel will have 136 rooms, including some with bunk beds, a restaurant, The Apartment and a large outdoor terrace.
