Southwest Airlines seems to be taking advantage of the reduction in frequencies and destinations for the major traditional carriers at their hubs. Southwest is already present in all the major American cities, but on alternative platforms. Southwest has therefore just opened some twenty daily flights from Chicago O'HareThe airline will begin operations on 14 February. It will offer four daily flights to Baltimore/Washington, Dallas-Love Field and Nashville; two daily flights will also connect O'Hare to Phoenix and six daily flights to Denver. The airline is already announcing other routes for next spring.
Southwest flights more accessible to European passengers
Houston George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) was one of the historic airports served by Southwest when the airline began operations in 1971. However, the carrier withdrew from this important airport in 2005 to concentrate on its Houston Hobby hub. This return is therefore an important strategic change. The destinations from Houston Intercontinental and the number of frequencies have not yet been revealed.

Chicago-O'Hare is one of the three largest US airports in terms of passenger numbers. The hub has welcomed 84.6 million passengers in 2019including 14.2 million international passengers. Nearly 45.3 million passengers have used Houston George Bush Intercontinental last year, including 11.1 million international passengers.
Southwest is also announcing its arrival at Colorado Springs. The low-cost airline will offer thirteen daily flights to Chicago-Midway, Dallas-Love Field, Denver, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
