Barcelona's business hotel sector is reinventing itself. Shortly after the revival of the former Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I, next to the Palacio de Congresos and now, following a long renovation phase the Gran Melia Torre MelinaThe Grand Hyatt Barcelona is another hotel designed for business travellers. A hotel whose history is also linked to the Spanish monarchy, since when it was first opened in 1975 it was called the Hotel Sofia Barcelona, in tribute to the wife of King Juan Carlos I.
The first five-star hotel in the Catalan city, it was once part of the InterContinental chain between 1996 and 2004, and in 2019 will be part of the Hyatt group under the Unbound Collection banner. Located in the heart of the chic Alta Barcelona district, a stone's throw from Barcelona's main thoroughfare, the Avenida Diagonal, the Grand Hyatt Barcelona is also almost next door to the Camp Nou, Barça's football stadium, as well as, in a more cultural style, the Pedralbes monastery. All of which makes the hotel an ideal base for a business trip away from the crowds on the Ramblas, but even more so for organising large-scale meetings.
The hotel has 22 meeting rooms for a 3,400 m² MICE area in total. A venue suited to all types of events, from the 15 m² Kitchen Room to the 864 m² Living Room, which can accommodate more than 800 people in theatre format, but can also be divided into three. When it comes to accommodation, the Grand Hyatt Barcelona also offers a wide choice with its 465 Art Deco-inspired rooms, some with access to a Club Lounge. These include the hotel's 49 suites, ranging in size from 57 m² to 119 m², and its 319 m² penthouse, with three bedrooms and a dining room for 10 people.
But alongside its business dimension, the Grand Hyatt also has an urban resort feel with its Oasis spa, in collaboration with Spanish brand Natura Bissé, and its outdoor swimming pool lined with sun loungers and a pool bar. Guests can also enjoy the Sofia Bar & Tapas on the terrace. This is one of the hotel's four gastronomic destinations, with the Philosophia café-patisserie on the ground floor, overlooking Avenida Diagonal, and the Peruvian restaurant Maymanta on the 19th floor at the very top of the hotel. Later this year, the Grand Hyatt will also be home to the Leña steakhouse, run by the famous Michelin chef Dani Garcia.
