IATA and the alliances want to simplify formalities

Travelling by plane can sometimes seem like an obstacle course between changing aircraft, security checks and formalities to enter a country. IATA, Star Alliance and Oneworld all have new programmes to simplify travel.

Star Alliance has renewed its cooperation with IATA (International Air Transport Association) on the pre-flight verification of travel documents. The system supported by IATA is called Timatic AutoCheck. Alliance passengers benefit from this service, which enables them to check that all their travel documents are in order when they check in online or at the airport, including during transfers. This saves Star passengers from having to undergo further formalities checks by an agent...

Our partnership with IATA helps ensure a smooth journey for our 775 million passengers

" Our strategy is to continue to improve the experience of travellers, particularly those who make multi-sector journeys on several airlines. Our partnership with IATA helps to ensure a seamless journey for our 775 million passengers. "explained Jeffrey Goh, CEO of Star Alliance during the annual IATA conference.

This same concern to simplify travel is also driving the alliance oneworld which is developing a new digital platform. Since its launch in February, the alliance has added new functionalities, particularly for journeys involving connections with several airlines.

The oneworld platform is gradually making it possible to summarise all the stages of a trip in a single document, via a single mobile application or the company's website, without having to download other applications. It is already operational on Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airwaysthe first oneworld members to interconnect their systems. In the coming weeks, it will be the turn of the airlines Iberia and Finnair allow passengers to check in and receive all their travel documents.

The alliance is also working on adding other common online services, such as baggage tracking, seat selection and the purchase of additional baggage allowance.
