InterCity Hotels has just made its Swiss debut near Zurich airport. For the occasion, the mid-range brand has found a location in line with its positioning, that of a accommodation that is always perfectly located for business trips. The Deutsche Hospitality Group's brand is mainly developed in city centres, and to a large extent next to major railway stations in Germany, but also in Vienna and Paris. Budapest and soon in Rome.
In its business travel portfolio, however, InterCity has so far only two airport hotels, near the hubs of Berlin-Brandenburg and Frankfurt in Germany, with another planned for Amsterdam Schiphol next year. This is a segment that InterCity will be strengthening with its expansion in SwitzerlandThe brand has also begun its descent towards Geneva airport, where it is expected to land in 2023.
The new hotel is located in the community of Rümlang, ten minutes from Zurich international airport and just fifteen minutes from the city centre. Designed like all the latest-generation Intercity hotels by Italian architect Matteo Thun, the hotel offers 260 rooms, a restaurant and bar, a gym and a 450 square metre conference area with six meeting rooms. Three of these can be adapted to accommodate up to 200 people.
The development of the brand in Switzerland will continue in 2023 near Geneva airport with a hotel in the pipeline for the new Quartier de l'Étang. Architect Dominique Perrault has come up with the general idea for this urban project, which is currently under way, to revitalise an 11-hectare industrial wasteland. The future Quartier de l'Étang, located in the commune of Vernier, very close to the Swiss hub and the Palexpo convention centre, as well as to the centre of Geneva, will include offices, shops and housing. Three hotels are planned as part of the project, including a budget B&B, an Adina long-stay residence and a 270-room InterCity.
