Jean-Jacques Reibel, Director of the InterContinental Hotel in Hong Kong

Five years ago, InterContinental took over the legendary Regent in Hong Kong. What have been the main changes to the hotel since then?

J.-J. R - Numerous improvements have been made since June 2001, when this hotel became the flagship of InterContinental Hotels § Resorts in the Asia-Pacific region: a new-look lobby, the creation of the Club InterContinental and the feng shui-inspired I-Spa, the renovation of meeting rooms overlooking the harbour... This summer we also completed the renovation of all the rooms. This year also saw the launch of our new Presidential Suite, the largest in Hong Kong at nearly 700 square metres, with a splendid view over Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong Island.

In Hong Kong more than anywhere else, hotel restaurants are strategic locations for business. What changes have you made in this area?

J.-J. R - In recent years, all our restaurants have undergone major renovations, but above all we have created an event by choosing to develop concepts in our hotel led by two of the world's greatest chefs. The Spoon by Alain Ducasse, designed by Tony Chi, opened in October 2003, and Nobu opens this autumn, in a décor designed by the Rockwell Group.
