Kimpton Hotels: a new lifestyle reference in Amsterdam

For its first steps outside the American continent, the Kimpton brand has chosen Amsterdam. A logical choice, given that the Dutch metropolis is now home to a flourishing number of design and lifestyle hotels.

Kimpton Hotels has set up shop in Europe for the first time. "When he created the brand, Bill Kimpton drew his inspiration from this continent, and in a way we bring it back home."says Angela Brav, CEO of IHG Europe. The brand which, with the Kimpton San Francisco, was among the first agitators from the wave of design hotels like the Morgans, Hempel or W before being taken over by the IHG group, has taken its sense of lifestyle with it. Located very close to Central Station, the Kimpton De Witt is the result of the complete transformation of the former Crowne Plaza City Centre, a combination of a building dating from the end of the last century and buildings dating from The Dutch Golden Age.

All of the 274 rooms are furnished in a contemporary style, featuring the very best of Dutch design, both past and present, such as the Delft blue bathrooms. The nine signature suites, including a penthouse suite with terrace and canal views, are housed in the old part of the hotel. Among its premium rooms, the Kimpton De Witt also boasts a small three-storey, two-bedroom house that was in its time, i.e. in the early 17th century, the poet's childhood home and playwright P. C. Hooft.

The Kimpton DeWitt adds a host of services to make your stay a pleasant one, including a restaurant with an original cocktail bar, featuring gins and juniper, the local speciality, a wine hour at the end of the day to relax and socialise, yoga mats in every room and bicycles for guests to use to explore the city.

After Amsterdam, the second Kimpton in Europe is expected in Paris in 2020, next to the Place de l'Opéra on rue Daunou, with a 149-room hotel currently under development. Today, the brand offers 60 hotels and over 70 restaurants worldwide.
