Launch of "Green Awards" for the Lufthansa Group

The Lufthansa group has just launched new all-inclusive fares called "Green Fares" ("Prix Verts"), fares that are higher but include CO₂ compensation and the use of sustainable fuel.

The Lufthansa Group further expands the scope for more sustainable travel with the launch of a green fare. The group claims to be the first airline in the world to offer a new fare that includes more climate-friendly flights.

From 15th FebruaryThis means that passengers can book a Green Fare on the Group's booking sites. This Green Fare already includes compensation for CO₂ emissions linked to flying.

To do so, 20 % of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) are used and 80 % of emissions are offset by high-quality climate protection projects. These prices are available on Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss, Eurowings Discover and Air Dolomiti.

Additional miles and free rebooking for Green Fares

To be more attractive to passengers, green fares offer additional status miles and a free rebooking option. Green Fares are valid in all the group's travel classes (economy and business) over 730,000 flights a year within Europe and to Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. This fare formula seems to have met with some success during a test period on flights to and from Scandinavia.

People don't just want to fly and discover the world, they also want to preserve it. We support our passengers on this path by offering them suitable products. We already offer a comprehensive range of more sustainable travel options, and we're expanding this even further with our Green Fares. The launch of this product is an important step in our efforts to make air travel more climate-friendly" explains Christina Foerster, Member of the Lufthansa Group Executive Committee responsible for Brand and Sustainability.

Green Fares also apply to corporate customers. The latter also receive a certificate attesting to the use of flights offsetting and/or mitigating CO₂ emissions.

The Lufthansa Group has set itself the ambitious target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. Already by 2030, the Lufthansa Group wants to halve its net CO₂ emissions compared with 2019 through reduction and offsetting measures.
