Suspended since 7 August because of the coup d'état in Nigerthefts fromAir France flights will not be resuming any time soon, at least not before the end of September. The French airline has renewed the suspension of its four flights a week to Niamey. This suspension also affects the Mali and Burkina Fasowhich has also been in effect since the beginning of August.
The closure of Niger and, more generally, thegeopolitical uncertainty in the region du Sahelhad in fact led to Air France to cancel its five flights a week to Ouagadougou and its daily flight to Bamako. All the more so since the Malian authorities, in support of the putsch in Niger, had cancelled the authorisation granted to Air France to fly aircraft between Paris and Bamako.
" Air France will have to adapt its flight schedule to Niamey (Niger), Bamako (Mali) and Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso)."said a company spokesman. As a result, the suspension of flights to and from Bamako and Ouagadougou has been extended until 24 September inclusive. Services to Niamey remain suspended.until further notice".
As for what's next, Air France explains that it is following "constantly monitor developments in the geopolitical situation in the areas served and overflown by its aircraft, in liaison with the French authorities, and reiterate that the safety of its customers and crews is its absolute priority. "
